GERMAN TRAVEL AGENCY REMOVES NAGORNO-KARABAKH-RELATED FALSE INFORMATION FROM ITS WEBSITE
Berlin, May 23 (AzerTAc). A tourism agency in Dresden, Germany, has removed Azerbaijan`s Nagorno-Karabakh region from the list of its must-visit destinations, which was mistakenly featured as part of Armenia, after receiving a letter of protest from the Azeri embassy in Berlin.
The agency`s website initially indicated the Nagorno-Karabakh region within a 13-day tour to Armenia, moreover, allegedly linking the region to Armenia and saying that 95% of its population was Armenians, according to a statement of the Coordination Center of German Azerbaijanis.
The mistake was discovered by Sain Jabrayilov, an Azerbaijani national living in Germany, who sent several letters of protest to the agency, but received no response. Jabrayilov then appealed to the embassy, and under instructions of Ambassador Parviz Shahbazov, the embassy`s officials made contact with the German tourism agency.
The embassy officials informed the agency that “the Nagorno-Karabakh region is an integral part of Azerbaijan, that Armenia, in contradiction with international legal norms, has been holding the region under occupation for over 20 years,” according to the statement.
“The embassy also made it known to the agency that given the fact the Nagorno-Karabakh region is a conflict site it has been included in the German Foreign Ministry`s list of dangerous sites for tourists. The embassy informed the tourism company that offering tours to the Nagorno-Karabakh region constitutes a violation of international legal norms. The embassy expressed the Azerbaijani government`s sharp condemnation of such actions and demanded that the false information be removed from the agency`s website,” the statement said.
The center said the German agency admitted it had made a serious mistake and noted they had been far from having any political intentions. The agency also said it was cooperating with Azerbaijan and did not want to spoil its relations with the country, the center added.
The tourism agency officially made its apologies to the Azeri embassy.
