Larijani berates US for illogical approach on Iran nuclear program

Tehran, May 23, IRNA -- Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani on Saturday berated Washington for drafting another resolution as part of reactionary approach toward Iranian nuclear program.

Speaking to reporters, he said US failed to adopt a rational stand consistent with Tehran declaration on fuel swap.

He expressed surprise about the US hasty reaction to the tripartite agreement signed by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on fuel swap in Tehran on May 17.

"Washington had asked leaders of Brazil and Turkey to mediate on the fuel swap but the US administration took an action on the contrary," he said.

Brazil and Turkey had admitted that they entered talks with Iran upon request made by France, the US and some other states, Larijani said.

"It means that the US has adopted double-standard policy concerning the Iranian peaceful nuclear activities.

"Such illogical behavior of the West would severely damage the prestige of Turkey and Brazil," he said.

Larijani said that the Tehran Declaration indicated that the Islamic Republic of Iran adopted a rational stand to resolve the nuclear dispute and that Tehran believes in negotiations to this end.

Larijani said that Majlis will support all provisions the Tehran Declaration on fuel swap, dismissing the attempts made the US administration to pick parts of the Declaration.

The Islamic Republic of Iran monitors the situation patiently, he said./end
