Ahmadinejad congratulates Iran's youth volleyball team for ranking 1st

Tehran, May 22, IRNA – Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad here Friday congratulated the National Youth Volleyball Team for ranking 1st in the 8th Asian Boys’ Volleyball Championship.

In a message to the youth volleyball team Ahmadinejad said: “I congratulate the entire teenaged youth and the great Iranian nation the mighty standing of the dear youth on the championship platform of Asia and their qualifying for attending the Olympics and the world competition games.”

President Ahmadinejad reiterated, “Growth of the saplings of self confidence, hope and hard work in young generations is the harbinger of conquering high peaks that is definitely most fit for the Iranian nation.”

Further in the message, the president also appreciated the entire team staff, coaches, players, and the Volleyball Federation managers, praying to Almighty God for the ever increased grandeur of the Iranian nation and the prestige of the pious offspring of this land.

Iran claimed the title of the 8th Asian Boys’ Volleyball Championship in a hard-fought victory over China on Friday.

In the match held at the full-packed Azadi Stadium Hall, Iran defeated China 3-2 (25-17, 26-28, 28-26, 22-25, 15-7) and won the championship.

This is Iran’s fifth title in the Asian Youth Volleyball Championship. Iran won the gold medal in 2001, 2005, 2007 and 2008.

The defending champion had already advanced to the 2011 FIVB Boys’ Youth World Championship and this new victory booked a place for them in the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore as Asia’s first representative.

South Korea beat India 3-1 and finished in third place. A total of 10 teams took part in the event./end
