Yemen calls for creating Arab mechanism for providing food security
SANA'A, July 13 (Saba )- Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Mansour al-Hawshabi called for creating Arab joint mechanism for utilizing agricultural capabilities exist in some Arab countries such as Yemen and Sudan for developing agricultural sector that help providing food security.
The minister highlighted a study made by GCC Chamber Union that called on Arab countries to exert joint efforts for filling the food gap via investing agricultural lands in countries enjoying great capabilities such as Yemen and Sudan.
Speaking to Saba, al-Hawshabi affirmed Yemen's keenness on encouraging investments in all fields, especially in agricultural sector, clarifying that Yemen has unique agricultural capabilities for setting up investment projects in different fields.
Worth to mention, the GCC study has called for importance of coordination with some Arab countries such as Yemen and Sudan for setting up investment projects in these countries for filling up the food gap.
The study estimated the food gap in GCC countries for 2006 with $ 12.2 billion despite that these countries have exerted different efforts for reducing it and providing food security.
