HOUSE SUPPORTS INDONESIAN STANCE ON UN RESOLUTION ON ZIMBABWE
Jakarta, July 13 (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives (DPR)'s Commission I here on Saturday expressed support for the stance of the Indonesian delegation to the United Nations Security Council in abstaining in the vote on a resolution on Zimbabwe.
Indonesia remained on its stance that it was not the right time for the world to interfere in the internal affairs of the African country.
The statement, made by the chairman of the House's Commission I Theo L Sambuaga of the Golkar Party faction together with other members, said that the UN had to give a chance to the African League to overcome the Zimbabwean problem.
"Let the African League handle this issue," Mutammimul Ula of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction said.
There were some considerations why the African League should be given a chance to solve this problem. Firstly, cultural approach could be easily built. Secondly, there would be no much interest, thus accelarating the process of reconciliation in the African region.
"We really support Indonesian stance to thoroughly take the effectivity of resolution into consideration. Because, however Indonesia should not be trapped in US scenario which had urged the international community to punish the Zimbabwean president.
Indonesia should be able to request the UN to revoke the existing draft resolution and to give a chance to the African League to carry out their role.
"Of course, the commitment and initiative to settle Zimbabwean conflict will not only end in power sharing, but it could also end with democracy, freedom and justice," Mutammimul Ula said.
