Medvedev warns against setting North Caucasian leaders against each

MOSCOW, May 20 (Itar-Tass) -- President Dmitry Medvedev warned human
rights activists against setting North Caucasian leaders against each
other in order to avoid even greater damage to the situation in the region.
Medvedev said he had made such "personal request" at a meeting of the
Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights
Institutions on Wednesday.
"There is no need to set them [North Caucasian leaders] against each
other. People are very sensitive as it is, and especially so in the
Caucasus. All of you are from the Caucasus, most of you any way, and you
know how it is like when one says that [Chechen President Ramzan] Kadyrov
is bad and [Ingush President Yunus-Bek] Yevkurov is good:," the president
said.
"Everyone has his faults. We all know that. And if you think that I do
not know something, that's not so. I know more than all of you together.
It's my job. I know very sad things. You should have no doubt about that,"
Medvedev said.
"But there is no need to set anyone against someone else, even if you
dislike a person for some reason or other or think that he makes wrong
decisions or even bad decisions, because in the long run this can cause
additional harm," he cautioned.
"But on the other hand, this does not mean that you should hush up
problems. You should speak of them publicly and straightforwardly, just as
you did today when a very strong language was used. But I am glad you did
that right here, in the Kremlin. This is the purpose of our meeting as a
minimum," he said.
