VLADIVOSTOK, May 19 (Itar-Tass) - Residents of Vladivostok have
celebrated the 120th anniversary of birth of First president of Vietnam Ho
Chi Minh on Wednesday.
A meeting held at the Versailles hotel, where Ho Chi Minh often stayed
during his visits, was attended by activists of the Maritime Society of
Friendship with Vietnam, students of the Oriental Institute where the
Vietnamese language has been taught, workers of the Vietnamese Consulate
General in Vladivostok, Vietnamese citizens who work in the Maritime
region.
Vladivostok traditionally celebrates the anniversaries of the late
Vietnamese leader's birth. Ho Chi Minh often visited Vladivostok in the
1920-1930s. Historians singled out three such visits of the Vietnamese
leader and a prominent activist of the national liberation movement to the
city. His fellow workers from the movement said that Ho Chi Minh enjoyed
recollecting his visits to Vladivostok and often said that the city often
saved him when he was pursued by French policemen.
A memorial plaque dedicated to Ho Chi Minh was established on a
building of the Vladivostok railway station in 2009 in memory of Ho Chi
Minh's visits to the city.
Vietnamese Consul General to Vladivostok Vu Duong Huan said that
Vietnam develops relations with Russian companies in the Far East at a
good pace. In 2010 alone representatives of more than 20 companies based
in Vladivostok visited Vietnam to establish partner relations, the consul
said.
