Qld probes claims of NAPLAN `cheating`

Queensland's education authorities are investigating claims of students cheating on
national numeracy and literacy tests at two Brisbane schools.
Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard says accusations that cheating occurred during
the National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) tests earlier this
month are serious.
"Cheating of course has serious consequences - this will be investigated," she told
the ABC.
"We're determined that right around the country our national testing rolls out in a
very rigorous way."
An Education Queensland spokeswoman said any allegations of cheating in NAPLAN tests
were taken seriously.
"Once cheating claims were raised with the department last week, an investigation
was immediately ordered," she said.
"This investigation is ongoing and the department will refer any outcomes to the
Queensland Studies Authority (QSA) and the Australian Curriculum Assessment and
Reporting Authority (ACARA)."
A parent had reported cheating occurred at Brisbane State High School and All
Hallows School, with students using unsupervised breaks to ask brighter students for
answers, the ABC said.
