Tehran's G15 summit, crushing blow to world arrogance: Chavez
Tehran, May 18, IRNA – President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela said Tuesday that the newly-ended summit meeting of the Group of 15 in Tehran was a crushing blow to the world arrogance.
Expressing deep regret for his failure to participate in the G15 summit meeting held in the Iranian capital on May 17, the Venezuelan president said he could not attend the summit meeting due to his poor health condition and “some major internal affairs.”
Speaking to his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on a telephone contact, President Chavez said that the meeting was a major blow to the imperialism and world arrogance.
He also hoped that Iran and Venezuela would promote mutual relations through expansion of bilateral cooperation.
The G-15 summit meeting was held here with the participation of leaders and senior officials from 17 Asian, African and South American countries.
Group of 15 was established in September 1989 to develop economic cooperation among developing countries.
The G15 focuses on cooperation among developing countries in the areas of investment, trade, and technology. Its membership has expanded to 18 countries, but the name has remained unchanged.
Iran, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, India, Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Chile, Jamaica, Mexico, Algeria, Peru, Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal and Zimbabwe are members of the G15./end
