Brazil president briefs Medvedev on results of Tehran talks.
MOSCOW, May 18 (Itar-Tass) - President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil, in a telephone conversation, has informed Russian President Dmitry Medvedev of the talks held in Tehran on Iran's nuclear problem (INP) and on their results.
The Kremlin press service announced on Monday that the telephone talk
between the two Heads of State had been held on the initiative of the
Brazilian side.
"In accordance with the understandings reached between the two Heads
of State during the recent Russo-Brazilian summit in Moscow, Luis Inacio
Lula da Silva informed Dmitry Medvedev in detail of the talks held in
Tehran on the INP and on the results achieved," the press service pointed
out.
"The President of Russia, upon thanking (the Brazilian President) for
the detailed information, expressed a positive appraisal of the efforts
made by Brazil together with Turkey with a view to promoting a
politico-diplomatic solution to the INP, and pointed out that Russia would
use every opportunity to support the process of the joint quest for and
the elaboration of a constructive settlement (of the problem) that would
satisfy the international community.
"It was pointed out by both sides that the new development of events
requires consultations between the Six and all the sides concerned," the
press service announcement said.
.RF-PRC coop'n panel to go into session in Beijing Tue.
BEIJING, May 18 (Itar-Tass) - A delegation of the State Duma lower
house of the Russian parliament, led by House Speaker Boris Gryzlov, has
arrived in the People's Republic of China (PRC) to attend the
Russo-Chinese parliamentary commission's 4th session opening here on
Tuesday. The parliamentarians are to examine a wide range of matters
concerning bilateral cooperation.
Upon arriving in Beijing, Gryzlov told Russian journalists, "In recent
years, relations between our two countries reached the level of strategic
partnership". He said, "It is very important to step up interaction,
including that within the scope of the inter-party dialogue on key
matters: the overcoming of the economic crisis, energy security, gas
deliveries, and an increase in trade turnover".
"While in the capital of China, we together with Wu Bangguo, Chairman
of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), will
co-chair the 4th session of the Russo-Chinese parliamentary commission on
cooperation between the State Duma and the NPC. Meetings with President Hu
Jintao of the PRC and Vice-President Xi Jinping are also planned," Gryzlov
said.
Besides, the State Duma Speaker went on to say, ceremonies dedicated
to the memory of military air pilots who died during the Second World War
in battles against Japanese militarism will take place in Nanjing. "Our
two countries were allies, and the peoples keep this historical memory,"
he recalled.
"A visit to the Memorial to Military Pilots is of great personal
importance to me," Gryzlov said. "My father was a military pilot. From the
very first day of the war he fought against the enemies on the Far Easter
borders. He was awarded a medal for the victory over Japan. Of course, I
consider it my duty to pay a tribute of memory to his combat buddies".
Touching upon a further programme for the Russian delegation's stay in
the PRC, Gryzlov said the parliamentarians would tour the EXPO-2010 in
Shanghai. "It goes without saying that we shall visit both the Russian and
Chinese pavilions," he said. "The significance of this exhibition is
especially great now because international economic cooperation is a major
anti-crisis resource". "There are all prerequisites for the exhibition to
become the starting point for new large-scale projects with the
participation of Russian enterprises," the State Duma Speaker pointed out.
A Charter of a Russo-Chinese parliamentary commission on cooperation
was signed in Beijing in 2005. The first session of the panel was held in
Moscow in 2006. The functioning of the Commission is based on the
principle of interaction not only on parliamentary matters but also on
assistance to the development of cooperation between the two countries on
the broadest spectrum of matters at all levels.
