Pakistan reaffirms commitment to provide political, budgetary support to reduce
Islamabad, July 11 PPI: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Friday reaffirmed government's commitment to provide political and budgetary support to reduce Pakistan's annual population growth to 1.55 percent in next five years.
Addressing national population convention in connection with World Population Day, he said since high population growth would eat up economic gains, strategic population planning is top most priority.
He appealed to civil society organizations to create awareness on benefits of family planning. The rapid decline in fertility rate is needed as ratio of young generation is on increase in our population. There is need for comprehensive population planning strategy to ensure employment, good education and health to young generation.
Gilani urged more coordination between Ministry of Health & Population to speed up efforts for birth control, reduce mortality rate of women and children by extending improved health and population welfare services.
