German Mideast expert calls Tehran accord "sensational"

Berlin, May 18, IRNA -- A prominent German expert on Middle East branded the latest Iranian uranium swap deal a "sensation,"weekly news magazine Der Spiegel reported on its homepage on Monday.

The tripartite (Iran-Brazil-Turkey) agreement is a sensation, said Markus Kaim of the Berlin-based German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP).

"This seems to be a breakthrough. We did not expect this," he added.
The accord calls for Iran to ship 1,200 kilograms of low enriched uranium to Turkey for storage.

In exchange, Iran would receive about 120 kilograms of uranium enriched to 20 percent for a medical reactor in Tehran./end
