Supreme Leader to Zimbabwean Pres.: Unity among independent states will turn big powers impotent

Tehran, May 18, IRNA – Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei appreciated Zimbabwe's resistance against British interference, adding that if independent countries unite, it will render big powers impotent.
Seyyed Ali Khamenei made the above statement in his meeting with Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and his accompanying delegation on Monday evening, according to the Supreme Leader’s official website.
During the meeting, he further emphasized that the “Islamic Republic of Iran’s relations with Zimbabwe are deep, friendly and sustainable.”
His eminence added, “There are broad potentials for further expanding of bilateral ties to much greater extent than their today’s status and Iran would remain by the side of Zimbabwe for good.”
Emphasizing that the G15 member countries must be more active and the independent countries, too, need to get closer to one another, Ayatollah Khamenei said, “The powers’ nature is interference and that is a great plight for the entire mankind, while the only way to get rid of it is greater cooperation among the independent governments and nations.”
Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the imposed pressures and trouble created by big powers against Iran over the past thirty years, emphasizing, “Despite all such pressures they have not achieved any results and they would not be able to do anything from now on, either.”
During the meeting in which President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was also present, President Mugabe, too, expressed great delight over having another opportunity to meet Ayatollah Khamenei, praising the two countries’ relations as deep-rooted.”
Mugabe added: “The G15 was established as an arm of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and greater efforts must be made to enable the group to regain its role within the south-south cooperation context.”
Referring to some western countries’ interference aimed at blocking the path for the advancement of the independent countries, President Mugabe emphasized, “We seriously want to have broader relations with Iran, believing that independent countries must preserve their unity and strengthen cooperation bonds among them.”/end
