VLADIVOSTOK, May 17 (Itar-Tass) - South Korean BNG Steel, one of the
leaders in the production of stainless steel in the country, looks into
the possibility of cooperation with Sakhalin coal makers. With that in
view, a delegation led by company president Chung Il-sun arrived on Monday
in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
At a meeting with the South Korean delegation, the first deputy
chairman of the Sakhalin region government, Sergei Sheredekin, noted that
Sakhalin miners produce 3.5 million tons of coal a year, and about one
million tons is exported, including to countries of the Asia Pacific
Region.
The region's government is interested in investments from the South
Korean company and is ready to offer support to it.
The delegation familiarized itself with projects for the development
of the Mgachi coalfield with reserves of 140 million tons of coal, the
Lopatino coal deposit with reserves of about 400 million tons, as well as
a project for the geological survey of a deposit in the
Alexandrovsk-Sakhalinsky district. According to Sheredekin, the quality of
coal produced in Sakhalin fully meets the demands of the Korean company.
Chung Il-sun said all proposals would be closely studied.
