CONFERENCE ON MANAGEMENT OF POLLUTED LANDS KICKS OFF IN SUMGAIT
Sumgait, May 17 (AzerTAc). An international conference on polluted lands management – opportunities for development of transition economies launched here today.
The 2-day conference is part of German technical cooperation (GTZ) project on Partnership cooperation between the cities of Germany and Caucasian region.
The event brings together Azerbaijani MPs, scientists, representatives of ministerial departments, as well as more than 50 experts from Germany, and European and CIS countries.
Opening the conference, head of the Sumgait Executive Power Vagif Aliyev underlined that the current year is declared as the Year of Ecology in Azerbaijan.
Touching upon environment protection, Aliyev spoke of projects conducted by Azerbaijan government, including construction of modern purification facility with the capacity of 200 cubic meters in a day.
Sumgait is actively cooperating with a number of countries in the world, including Ludwigshafen, he noted.
Deputy Ambassador of Germany to Azerbaijan Peter Chiglerin highly praised the role of partner-cities in strengthening of relation between Azerbaijan and Germany.
Chiglerin added friendly ties between Sumgait and Ludwigshafen, which started since 1977, is the vivid example of brotherhood.
During the first day of the conference, the attendees heard 8 reports.
