Second Phase: Phuket to install additional earthquake detector
PHUKET, July 11 (TNA) – Phuket will initiate the second phase of its earthquake detector installation in November to increase the efficiency of Thailand's disaster warning system.
Chamnong Chitpakdee, director of the meteorological center in the southwestern region said the second phase of the earthquake detectorproject will be built on Racha Noi island in Phuket.
Both a seismic station and a strong motion aecelerograph station will be set up on the island, which presently has two existing seismic stations.
He said the Royal Thai Navy has allowed the disaster warning system to be installed in its area, and that the system, when complete, will cover all disaster prone areas.
Mr. Chamnong said that Thailand's tsunami warning system is considered 100 per cent complete, with various systems including disaster warning towers, tsunami detection buoys, and automatic weather stations installed across the country to ensure efficiency.
