Iajuddin for easing Libyan visa regime for Bangladeshis
DHAKA, Bangladesh, July 11 (BSS) - The newly appointed Ambassador of Libya to Bangladesh Ahmed Ateya Hamd Al-Imam today presented his credentials to President Professor Dr Iajuddin Ahmed atBangabhaban here.
Welcoming the new Ambassador, the President expressed satisfaction over the bond of fraternity that exists between Bangladesh and Libya and said Dhaka attaches great importance toher relations with Libya.
He also expressed hope that the relations between the two brotherly countries would be strengthened and expanded furtherduring the tenure of the Ambassador.
The President said Bangladesh and Libya share similar views on many international issues, and they are working in close cooperation in different international forum, particularly in theUN and the OIC.
Highlighting Bangladesh's contribution in ensuring peace and stability in Africa through participation in the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping operations, Professor Iajuddin expressed eagerness to take part in the development efforts of thecontinent through sharing experience, skill and expertise.
Referring to Bangladeshi workers and professionals, particularly doctors, engineers and teachers in Libya, he said they are not only bringing mutual economic benefits, but also laid a solid foundation for amity through wide people-to-peopleinteraction.
The President underscored the need for enhancing such participation in the days to come through making more opportunities for Bangladeshi manpower in Libya and easing Libyanvisa formalities for Bangladeshi nationals.
He said Libyan students could take higher education in Bangladeshi universities and engineering and medical institutions, as its graduates have high demand in the developedcountries.
Mentioning that there is huge scope of enhancing economic relations between the two counties for the mutual benefit of the both and said Libya could import Pharmaceutical products fromBangladesh.
In this regard, Professor Iajuddin stressed the need for establishing a joint commission, ensuring of frequent visits of high level officials and business leaders for the sake of rapidexpansion of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Libya.
He also thanked Libya for extending generous assistance andsolidarity to cyclone, Sidr affected people of Bangladesh.
The New Libyan envoy sought the President's cooperation indischarging his duties during his tenure in Bangladesh.
Referring to Bangladesh's role in international arena, he said Libya is always getting Bangladesh's cooperation in playingits role in the UN Security Council.
Ahmed Ateya Hamd Al-Imam also briefed the President about Libyan socio-economic development and its achievement indifferent fields.
Secretary of the President's Office Md Sirajul Islam, Foreign Secretary Touhid Hosain, Military Secretary to the President Major General Mohammad Ruhul Amin and Press Secretary Abdul AwalHowlader were present.
Earlier, on his arrival at Bangabhaban, a smart contingent of President's Guard Regiment gave the Libyan Ambassador a guard ofhonour.
