Two toddlers pulled from Sydney pond
A young woman is being questioned by police after the near drowning of two toddlers
in a Sydney pond.
The boy and a girl, both 18 months old, were rescued from the pond in a park at
Wiley Park just before 3pm (AEST) on Wednesday, police said.
Paramedics treated both infants at the scene and they were taken to the Children's
Hospital at Westmead, with the boy said to be in a critical condition.
"The boy is believed to be listed as being in a critical but stable condition, while
the girl is expected to be released from hospital this evening," police said.
"A 20-year-old woman who was believed to be caring for the children has been taken
to Campsie police station where she is assisting police with their inquiries."
A NSW Ambulance Service spokeswoman said it was unknown how long the toddlers were
submerged.
At this stage it was not known how the toddlers came to be in the pond, located in
the park at the corner of King Georges and Canterbury roads.
