APA political meeting starts in Tehran

Tehran, May 12, IRNA – The Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) opened the meeting of its permanent committee on political affairs here on Wednesday for three days.

First Vice Speaker of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Mohammad-Hassan Abutorabi-Fard inaugurated the APA political meeting in the presence of parliamentary delegations from 16 Asian states.

The APA permanent committee on political affairs would draw up a draft for the meeting of the APA executive council.

The participating parliamentarians in Tehran are to confer on major issues related to peace in Asia and cooperation among the Asian states.

The Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) was born in 2006 at the Seventh Session of the Association of Asian Parliamentary for Peace (AAPP).

The APA in 2007 had 41 Member Parliaments and 17 observers. Members of the assembly must be elected by members of the Member Parliaments.

The APA Charter and Tehran Declaration lay out a framework of cooperation among Asian countries, and point out to a vision; which is Asian Integration./end
