Indian gets highest honour in American business journalism

New York, Jul 11 (PTI) A journalist working with Canada-based news website NowPublic, has become the first Indian to win the prestigious Loeb Award -- one of the highesthonours in American business journalism.

Sanjay Jha, NowPublic's South Asia Bureau Chief, won the award for television programme "India's Promise", along with P.B.S. Nightly Business Report colleagues Steve Washington,Darren Gersh and Dana Greenspon.

"It is a tremendous honour to be the first Indianrecipient of the highly-coveted Loeb Award," Jha said.

"It is my privilege to provide a first-hand account of breaking Indian and South Asian news to NowPublic's enormousnetwork of readers and journalists," he added.

Prior to joining NowPublic, Jha worked with Delhi-based South Asian Bureau of The Guardian and also served as India Producer for the B.B.C., P.B.S., France 2 and the DanishBroadcasting Corporation.

"Sanjay has proven himself as an extremely accomplished journalist in just a short time as NowPublic's South AsiaBureau Chief," said Leonard Brody, C.E.O. of NowPublic.

"We're extremely proud and cannot think of a moredeserving candidate," he added.

The Loeb Awards were established in 1957 by Gerald Loeb, a financier and founding partner of E. F. Hutton, to encouragequality reporting in business, finance and the economy.

They are presented by Anderson School of Management at the University of California, Los Angeles. PTI
