OIC failed to defend Ummah rights: JI leader
Islamabad, May 12, IRNA -- Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Syed Munawar Hassan on Tuesday said that Organization of Islamic Conference has failed to represent the cause of Muslim Ummah in an effective manner and has become a mere decoration piece.
Talking to IRNA he called upon the OIC to come up with a strong voice to put pressure on Israeli aggression on innocent people of Palestine.
“We cannot face the challenges of Western world unless we are united,” he noted.
In the meeting of Interparliamentary union of OIC-member states in Istanbul, the Muslim leaders condemned what they said were provocative Israeli acts at holy places in Al-Quds and urged the international community to prevent geographical and demographic changes in the city.
The OIC warned Israel that its intransigence and persistent defiance of the international community by the establishing new settlements in Al-Quds will push the region to the brink of an abyss.
OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu told the Istanbul meeting that Al-Quds was facing its worst days ever and that diplomatic action and condemnation could not address the challenge posed by Israeli settlements alone.
“Israel is taking advantage of the international community’s lassitude with its policies and carrying out a hideous plan aimed at depopulating the city of al-Quds of its Palestinian citizens,” he said.
Syed Munawar Hassan was of the view that the OIC was formed to defend the rights of Muslim countries but unfortunately it has failed to play an effective role.
He added that there is absolutely needless to expect something positive from the OIC.
“OIC has been forwarding the agenda of US,” he said.
Expressing his views the JI leader said that that it was unfortunate that the member countries of the OIC have become tools in the hands of the US.
Syed Munawar Hassan added that the overall misery of the Muslims is due to the cooperation of Muslim leaders with anti Islam powers.
He demanded the Muslim Ummah to get united and initiate all-out efforts at political diplomatic and economic level to resolve the issue of Palestine.
He said that OIC must express unity among Muslim countries as it is the only way to deter the aggression of Israel and mere statements won’t do anything./end
