Berlin condemns new wave of terror attacks in Iraq

Berlin, May 12, IRNA -- The German government on Tuesday condemned "in the strongest terms" the latest terror wave in Iraq which killed and injured hundreds of people across war-torn Iraq.

"Terror and violence must not prevail," German foreign ministry spokesman Andreas Peschke said.

He urged all political groups in Iraq to pursue the path of "national reconciliation and dialogue."

"The future of Iraq can only be shaped through peace and democracy," added Peschke.

Around 100 people were killed and 340 injured in a series of bombings and armed attacks across Iraq on Monday that the government labeled an attempt to destabilize the country.

The terror attacks were the deadliest wave of violence in Iraq so far this year.

Iraq has witnessed a surge in daily violent attacks as the political crisis over the formation of a new government continues.

Iraqis went to parliamentary polls on March 7, but no party won majority of the parliament's seats. Negotiations are underway between the Iraqi political parties to form a coalition government.

Observers say that the terrorists are exploiting the current political vacuum to disrupt law and order, taking toll on innocent people coming to streets to lead their ordinary life.

They believe that emergence of coalition government, the outcome of the parliamentary election, will be helpful to enforce law and order and thwart the terrorists attempt to jeopardize the democratic achievements of the Iraqi people./end
