Turkish FM upbeat on jump-starting new EU-Iran talks
Berlin, May 11, IRNA -- Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu expressed optimism on chances for reviving talks between Iran and EU geared at resolving the deadlock over Tehran's nuclear program, German press agency dpa reported from Brussels Monday.
Davutoglu told the reporters in the Belgian capital that he was "positive and optimistic" following his meeting with the EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and his Iranian counterpart, Manouchehr Mottaki.
"Our efforts will continue in the coming days and I hope these diplomatic efforts will help to solve the problem without having to resort to any type of sanctions," the Turkish foreign minister said.
Davutoglu's remarks followed earlier calls by Ashton for Ankara's mediation in the Iranian nuclear conflict.
Turkey and Brazil, both non-permanent members of the Security Council ahve strongly opposed to new sanctions against Iran, and have recently boosted their efforts for a diplomatic settlement of the Iranian nuclear row./end
