Iran president represents views of developing world: Indian Scholar

New Delhi, May 11, IRNA -- President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad presented Iran's view brilliantly in the United Nations Review Conference of Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, a renowned Indian scholar said.

Dr. Arshi Khan, Associate Professor of Political Science, Aligarh Muslim University told IRNA in an exclusive interview that President Ahmadinejad has put forward Iran's view on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear arms. His views can be termed as the views of the whole developing countries suffering because of one particular country's hegemony.

Dr. Khan, a well-known commentator and analyst who follows the US policy on the Middle East especially Iran, said that President Ahmadinejad in his address to the UN review conference elaborated on a number of important issues which are fundamental for attaining durable peace and security in this volatile world.

Replying to a question whether Iran's Nuclear Program is a threat to the world peace as the US and some of its allies are trying to convince, Khan said, "I don’t believe in who says what but what really exist on the ground. Iran’s nuclear program has nothing to do with the production of weapons as it requires different process at much higher level. As of now, there is no sign of whatsoever that Iran is working in the direction of making bombs. On the contrary, Iran is seriously engaged in pursuing processing for producing nuclear energy for developmental purposes".

"The American claim is politically motivated to emotionalize its own citizens and other countrymen to demonize Iranian government for targeting its security infrastructures", he added.

To a question that when Iran as a signatory to the NPT has the right to peaceful use of Nuclear Energy then why the big powers making so much hue and cry, Dr. Arshi Khan said that the purpose of the anti-Iranian forces is primarily psychological and strategic. First of all, the belligerent powers mainly the US and Israel have been waging ‘psychological war’ against Iran to label it as a serious threat to the peace and security of region and the world. Secondly, they have strategic interests to demolish Iran as a substantive power in the region so that it should be disabled to resist against their hegemony.

"The big powers are eying on the natural resources and security of oil supplies. To them Iran is a difficult country to be dealt with in the arena of exploiting the natural resources of the region," he added.

About the ways to resolve this issue, the well known Indian analyst said that as the Iran's nuclear program is not a problem but undoubtedly and of course wrongly, projected to so, can easily be resolved.

"It is in fact a part of routine process of domestic decision for the development purpose," Dr. Arshi Khan said, adding that the IAEA team has visited its different sites and till date nothing wrong has been found.

Iran is also an NPT signatory. It also signed Additional Protocol. But the West particularly the US seems to be short-sighted to take this issue as part of the “War on Terror II” by projecting Iran as a terrible nation to be dealt with iron-hands. But the solution lies in the changing of the mind-set of the war mongers. The main question is who will blow the whistle first. It is either the honest leaders free from the Zionist ring or the conscious votes of enlightened citizens, which was suggested by re known philosopher JS Mill long time ago. The lasting solution can also be found in the paragraph 14 of the UNSC Resolution 687 (1991), which seeks to create West Asia region free from the weapons of mass destruction.

Replying to a question whether both Iran and the US have missed the chance of building the mutual trust, Dr. Arshi Khan said that so far they have not missed all the opportunities as they have not shown equal intent for it.

"Iran has been offering several options but the US is practicing avoidance, he said, adding that this American attitude raises a major question before the world community".

In this respect, Iran leadership, irrespective of its leanings and ideology, seems to be more open than the US with more desire for dialogue but the US leadership is entangled with the Zionists’ schemes, Dr. Khan said and concluded by adding that if President Barak Obama and the US officials apply their own mind then the solution would certainly emerge./end
