Iranian activists discuss women’s rights with deputy speaker
TEHRAN, May 10 (MNA) – Members of the Women’s Islamic Coalition have met with Deputy Majlis Speaker Mohammad-Reza Bahonar to discuss women-related issues, announced Fa’eze Hashemi.
Women’s Islamic Coalition is composed of reformist and principlist female activists that campaigns for protecting women’s rights.
Maryam Behruzi, Fatemeh Rakei, Masumeh Ebtekar, and Faeze Hashemi are the prominent members of the coalition.
“We held discussions over the Articles 23 and 25 of the Family Protection Law (which allows men to remarry while they are married to a woman) and the plan that envisages that women work part-time,” Faeze Hashemi told the Mehr New Agency.
The coalition felt that women’s rights are in danger and some laws discriminatory, so it decided to hold talks with officials, the former lawmaker stated.
Faeze Hashemi, who is also the head of women’s branch of the Construction Servants Party, described the meeting as a positive move intended to convince the deputy Majlis speaker to take into consideration the coalition members’ viewpoints on issues related to women.
Majlis is examining the Family Protection Law and the part-time employment of women.
