Iranian delegation arrives in Lahore

Islamabad, May 10, IRNA - An Iranian delegation arrived in Pakistan’s eastern city of Lahore on Sunday for talks to further strengthen bilateral relations, officials said.
The 13-member Iranian delegation is led by Mashhad Mayor Seyed Muhammad Pejman, which will hold meetings with provincial ministers to enhance cooperation in different fields.
The Mashhad mayor said Iran is ready to help Pakistan in solution to the energy crisis and industrial development.
Provincial Minister Dost Muhammad Khosa said that both sides would explore ways to promote cooperation between Khorasan and Punjab province. Khosa said that the Iranian delegation is here to finalize some cooperation agreement between Punjab and Khorasan.
There had been exchanges of visits between Punjab and Khorasan leaders in the recent past and the Chief Minister of Punjab, Shehbaz Sharif, had also visited Khorasan last year.
Sharif had suggested attracting Iranian investment to establish two 100-MW capacity power plants in Punjab Province, one in Lahore and another in Faisalabad.
He also sought Iranian investment for joint ventures to establish a wind power plant and a hydroelectric power plant in his province.
A six-member delegation of Punjab Assembly led by Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal last week visited Iran. During their stay in Iran, the delegation held meetings with various dignitaries to enhance bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries.
The delegation met Deputy President Muhammad-Zadeh, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Ali Larijani besides other political and social figures.
Talking to media on arrival at the Lahore Airport, Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal said that exchange of delegations between the two countries would help improve relations in various fields especially in the sectors of education, agriculture and industry./end
