Crows beat Richmond by 50 points
A late flurry of goals gave Adelaide their first AFL win of the season, a 50-point
triumph over Richmond at AAMI Stadium.
The Crows won 15.14 (104) to 7.12 (54) on Sunday night to leave the Tigers alone and
winless at the foot of the ladder.
Adelaide forward Kurt Tippett kicked four goals, Jason Porplyzia three.
Richmond's Robin Nahas and Jack Riewoldt both kicked two for the Tigers.
Richmond were level with the Crows until the seventh minute of the last quarter and
sniffing an upset, before a stunning finish by the home side delivered a break
through victory.
The Crows booted the last eight goals of the match, started by four goals in a
game-breaking 10 minutes which sealed victory before 31,196 spectators.
That purple patch featured a fine snap by Graham Johncock which capped a superb game
from the dashing defender before he left the field with a suspected broken arm late
in the game.
Johncock and McLeod were linchpins of many attacking drives from Adelaide, and the
Crows needed them against the desperate Tigers.
Richmond matched their hosts for all but the final 20 minutes, with emerging players
Nahas, Dustin Martin and Shane Edwards all prominent performers.
Richmond led by eight points at half time after a spirited opening of a scrappy
encounter in which pressure rather than precision was a feature.
But as much as the final quarter fadeout would worry Tigers coach Damien Hardwick,
so would his side's wasteful third term of 0.5 to Adelaide's 2.6 as the game
tightened.
