time, a mining company source told Itar-Tass.
Sections in the mine are filled with smoke, and it is impossible to
continue the operation. Work is underway now to clear the mine of smoke.
After the second explosion, contact with three rescue teams, 20
rescuers, is lost, the source said.

coalmine is suspended after the second methane explosion at 01:25 Moscow
time, a Raspadskaya company source told Itar-Tass.
Sections in the mine are filled with smoke, and it is impossible to
continue the operation. Work is underway now to clear the mine of smoke.
After the second explosion, contact with three rescue teams -- 20
rescuers -- is lost, the source said.
According to the updated information, 359 people were in the mine when
the first explosion occurred on Saturday at 20:55 Moscow time.
By 03:30 Moscow time, 295 miners were brought out of the mine, and 54
miners and 20 rescuers are underground.
According to the preliminary information, eight people died and 24
were injured in the first explosion. Twelve people were taken to hospital.
An operational headquarters is working at the site. It is headed by
the Kemerovo Region's Governor Aman Tuleyev.
A total of 152 specialists of the Emergencies Ministry and eight
reanimation teams are working at the site. Twenty nine units of machines
are used in the operation.

According to the updated information, 359 people were in the mine when
the first explosion occurred on Saturday at 20:55 Moscow time. However,
the mining company again confirmed that 312 people, according to the
lists, were underground at the moment.
By 03:30 Moscow time, 295 miners were brought out of the mine, and 54
miners and 20 rescuers remain underground.
According to the preliminary information, eight people died and 24
were injured in the first explosion. Twelve people were taken to hospital.
An operational headquarters is working at the site. It is headed by
the Kemerovo Region's Governor Aman Tuleyev.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was immediately informed about the
coalmine explosion.
Russian Emergencies Minister Sergei Shoigu reported to the president
by telephone about measures taken to rescue the miners, the Kremlin press
service told Itar-Tass.
Medvedev gave directions to the minister to inform him about the
rescue operation and do everything possible to rescue the people, the
press service said.
Shoigu said there was everything to help and rescue the miners. Twelve
emergencies ministry teams were working at the site. Additional groups
arrived from Novokuznetsk. Emergencies ministry forces in neighbouring
regions are ready if necessary to send specialists to the coalmine to help.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin called the Kemerovo Region's
Governor Aman Tuleyev in connection with the accident, the premier's press
secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
Tuleyev informed the prime minister about circumstances of the
accident and measures taken to rescue the trapped miners. Putin discussed
with the governor what forces and means were needed for help.
The Russian Energy Ministry has set up emergency headquarters in
connection with the coalmine accident.
Deputy Energy Minister Vladimir Azbukin will leave for the accident
site on Sunday.
The coalmine is a leading enterprise of the Raspadskaya company. It
gives about 8,000,000 tonnes of coking coal a year. The mine was put into
operation in 1973. It is one of the country's largest mines producing
valuable coking coal. The length of underground ways totals about 300
kilometres, the largest in Russia.

March 21, 2000, 12 rescuers died during a rescue operation after a gas
explosion in the Komsomolskaya mine in the Kemerovo Region.
January 13, 2002, methane exploded with a fire in the Vorkutinskaya
mine in Komi. Five people died.
June 16, 2003, 12 miners died in an accident in the Ziminka mine, the
Kemerovo region.
April 10, 2004, a methane discharge occurred in the Taizhina mine in
Kemerovo. The gas exploded, causing ground collapses. Fifty three people
were underground at the time. Three of them got out themselves. Rescuers
found other three with various injuries. The accident killed 47 miners.
October 28, 2004, methane exploded in the Listvyazhya mine, the
Kemerovo Region, when 103 workers were in the mine. During a few hours
after the accident, rescuers helped 67 people to get out. The blast
killed 13 miners and injured 23.
February 9, 2005, methane exploded in the Yesaulskaya mine in the
Kemerovo Region, when 17 rescuers and 13 miners were underground. They
worked there after a fire that broke out in the mine the day before. The
explosion killed 25 people.
March 19, 2007, a massive methane discharge in the Ulyanovskaya mine,
the Kemerovo Region, killed 110 people, including almost the entire
management and a British citizen. Ninety three miners survived. At the
accident moment 203 people were in the mine.
May 24, 2007, in the Kemerovo Region, a methane discharge occurred in
the Yubileynaya mine when 217 people were underground, 179 of them were
brought outside, but 39 died.
June 25, 2007, methane exploded in the Komsomolskaya mine in Vorkuta,
killing ten people. At the moment 277 people were in the mine. Eighteen
were at the section where the accident occurred.
May 30, 2008, an accident occurred in the Lenin mine in
Mezhdurechensk, the Kemerovo Region. A roof collapsed there during
assembly work. Seventeen people were at the section at a depth of 340
metres. Eleven were brought outside immediately. The collapse killed five,
and rescuers found one alive.

KEMEROVO, May 9 (Itar-Tass) -- Some were hurt in the second explosion
in the Raspadskaya coalmine. There is a risk of other explosions, Kemerovo
Region Governor Aman Tuleyev, who is at the site, told reporters.
He said the rescue operation was suspended indefinitely, since there
was smoke in the mine. The second explosion destroyed the main air shaft.
Some people were hurt on the surface.
Heavy machines are removing the obstructions in the air shaft, and
specialists are organising air supply into the mine.
"The rescue work will continue when the atmosphere in the mine is
restored, but to conduct rescue work now means to send people to die," the
governor explained.
