Iran's army starts tactical operations in southeast region during war games
Jask, Homuzgan Prov, May 9, IRNA – The Iranian Army started its tactical operations in southern parts of Sistan and Baluchestan province as part of “Velayat 89” war games.
Operations Deputy for Iranian Army’s Ground Forces, Brigadier General Ali Arasteh told reporters on Sunday that in the fifth day of the war games, numerous sectors of the ground forces including infantry, armoured, artillery and telecommunications units started their tactical operations in southern parts of the province which is located in southeast of the country.
He said the quick presence of army’s ground forces in the drills was one important feature of the war games, stressing that the units managed to make their presence in the pre-determined spots in the shortest time possible which indicates the degree of their readiness and capabilities.
The army official also said the main message of Velayat 89 war games was security, peace and friendship for neighboring countries, stressing that the Iranian Army was fully ready to confront any kind of external threats with ultimate power and might.
During the five-stage military exercise which is to last eight days, the Iranian Army is to display its defensive and deterrent naval power in the country’s southern waters.
The naval exercise kicked off last Wednesday just after the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) completed major war games in the Persiasn Gulf, Sea of Oman and also in the key oil route of the Strait of Hormuz./end
