Only dialog can resolve deadlock on Iran’s N-Program: Pak analyst

Islamabad, May 9, IRNA – A well-known Pakistani Analyst Imtiaz Gul on Saturday believed that the deadlock between Iran and the West over the nuclear issue can only be resolved by a constructive dialog.
Talking to IRNA Gul said that the policy of coercion has always proved counter productive.
“Pressure would not yield to a positive result and there is no alternative to dialog”, he maintained.
Expressing his views over the suggestion of Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim asking Iran to accept the United Nation's nuclear swap proposal, Gul said that there is no harm in accepting such a deal but the final decision would be taken by the Iranian government keeping in view its national interests.
Brazilian Foreign Minister has asked Tehran to accept the deal with fewer conditions as a sign of willingness to solve the impasse from the Iranian side.
Imtiaz Gul said that Iran should make its nuclear program as transparent as possible.
Under a UN-brokered deal, Iran would send most of its low-enriched uranium abroad for further processing and conversion into fuel rods for the Tehran research reactor, which produces radio medicine for cancer patients.
Iran says it needed guarantees that the other side will deliver the fuel in a timely manner. The deal remains stalled as the West continues to ignore Tehran's demand.
Brazil, a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, is among the countries trying to help finalize the deal.
The US and west have been suspecting on Iran’s nuclear program saying that Iran is trying to build an atomic bomb, which Iran has strongly denied.
Replying to a question, Imtiaz Gul said that ‘we have to see that fundamentally there is mistrust or something else between the west and Iran”.
“If it is just mistrust it can be removed by brining more transparency in Iran’s nuclear program”, he suggested.
“I think it is not a big problem to resolve the issue of mistrust but if it is some thing else which is politically motivated then obviously any move by Iran will not be good enough to set aside the western pressure”, believed Imtiaz Gul.
Imtiaz Gul is the Chairman of Center for Research and Security Studies Islamabad and hosts a weekly political talk show. Gul is one of the leading media persons of Pakistan focusing on the issues of politics, governance, security, terrorism and religious extremism./end
