Iran leaves door open for all to enter fuel swap: Boroujerdi

Tehran, May 9, IRNA -- Chairman of Majlis Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy said on Saturday that the Islamic Republic of Iran has left the door open for any country even the US to enter the fuel swap.

Talking to IRNA, Alaeddin Boroujerdi said that it makes no difference which country including Russia, Brazil, US or France to make the fuel swap.

He said that Iran has on several occasions announced that fuel swap should take place in its territory.

"If the US is sincere in its remarks, it should take a practical step to do the job."

He added that since the Americans have built the Tehran medical research reactor, they must provide Iran with fuel.

He said that Iran needs objective guarantees for delivery of 20 percent enriched uranium in return for 3.5 percent enriched uranium Iran has produced to fuel the power plants.

Iran has demanded the International Atomic Energy Agency to make arrangements with suppliers of the enriched uranium to provide Iran with 20 percent fuel for Tehran medical research reactor.

The U.N. agency forwarded Iranian demand to the High Enriched Uranium suppliers including France and gave a proposal to swap Low Enriched Uranium Iran produces with the 20 percent fuel.

Iran says France has poor record in honoring its commitments to Iran in the past citing failure of the French company, Eurodif, to supply fuel to Tehran reactor in 1970s despite major part of the French company's shares belongs to Iran.

Iran agreed to the swap and said that it must take place in Iranian territory./end
