Protesters denounce attacks; Bomb experts finding clues

BANGKOK, May 8 (TNA) -- Key anti-government protesters of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) on Saturday denounced the deadly attacks taking place late Friday and after midnight Saturday morning, killing two police officers and wounding 13 other persons.

UDD leader Natthawut Saikuea denounced the still unidentified attackers who used small arms gunfire and M79 grenades, learning more five anti-riot police officers and three soldiers also wounded with one policeman dying later in hospital.

Mr Natthawut said the action showed that there are some people not wanting to see normalcy achieved under the five-point national reconciliation plan proposed earlier this week by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and to see peace restored in the country.

He urged the government to find the culprits and punish them under the law as soon as possible.

Red Shirt key leaders are scheduled to meet Saturday afternoon to discuss what support they should give to the national reconciliation plan.

UDD protesters are still demonstrating from Ratchadamri Road to Sala Daeng intersection.

In another development, police bomb experts inspected the scene at Lumpini Park where check-point was located in an attempt to find more evidence that could lead to the attackers.

Forensic police officers also viewed the shooting scene on Silom Road, inspecting damage from the gunfire and seeing additional evidence. No suspect has been apprehended so far. (TNA)
