Newcombe recovers from cancer operation

Australian tennis great John Newcombe is recovering from an operation for skin cancer.
The seven-time grand slam champion and former world No.1 had a basal cell carcinoma
removed from the right side of his nose.
"It's just a small little white thing you can hardly see it," the 65-year-old told
Channel 10.
"It's a cancerous growth so he (the doctor) had to cut ... and I finished up having
to have 64 stitches."
It was discovered the cancer had spread under his skin but Newcombe said his
trademark moustache had been spared.
"They didn't touch the mo but the came pretty close though," he said with a laugh.
Newcombe said he'd be more careful out in the sun after already tempering his
lifestyle following a stroke in 2003.
"I was over-drinking and smoking once I had the stroke I haven't gone near a
cigarette since then," he said.
He expects to have recovered sufficiently enough to attend Wimbledon next month.
