Tourism Australia highlights big things

We've all passed them on the road, or pulled over to take a happy snap when the kids
demanded to see the big ... whatevers.
But how many of them can you think of?
Well, there's the 13-metre Big Banana, which has been stopping traffic near Coffs
Harbour on the NSW mid north coast since 1964, a 15 metre high Big Merino at the
southern entrance to Goulburn, the Big Pineapple at Nambour in Queensland, the Big
Murray Cod on the border of NSW and Victoria, Tamworth's Big Golden Guitar and of
course Glenrowan's Big Ned Kelly.
In fact there are more than 150 big'uns scattered around the great southern land.
You name it and there's probably a big version of it squatting on a piece of dirt
somewhere on the world's biggest island.
That's why Tourism Australia (TA) wants us to make a big thing of, well, our big
things.
The tourism body wants to put them all on the international map as part of its new
global campaign, There's Nothing Like Australia.
Aussies have until midnight on May 12 to upload images and stories about their
favourite place down under, at www.nothinglikeaustralia.com.
TA chief Andrew McEvoy says many of the "big" things have been posted on the site,
but there's room for more.
"The bigs are such a great example of the Aussie sense of humour and ingenuity that
it's impossible to imagine an Australian holiday map without them," he said.
"But it's up to Australians to put them there.
"There can't be too many family photo albums that don't have a shot of mum, dad and
the kids lined up in front of the Big Banana, or the Big Pineapple.
"Now is the time for everyone to open those old albums and share these fantastic
holiday fun times with the world."
Paul Brooks, from NSW, posted a photo of his kids pretending to floss the teeth of
the Big Croc .. from inside its mouth.
Nancy Flammea, from Victoria, snapped her kids with the kind of Tasmanian Devil
you'd never want to meet, and Ronda Brien's advice to people visiting the Big
Pineapple is to bring a big knife to cut it.
