7th session of urban water management center kicks off in Tehran

Tehran, May 5, IRNA – The Governing Board of the Regional Center on Urban Water Management (under UNESCO auspices) began its seventh session here on Wednesday.

The regional center was established by Iran’s Ministry of Energy and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in 2000 to deal with the critical issue of water resources management particularly urban water management in arid and semi-arid regions of the South West Asia, CIS and Middle East Countries.

At present, 11 countries and 5 International Organizations are actively involved in the Governing Board of the Centre at the highest level.

Ministers from the center member states along with representatives form the UNESCO and the UN are participating in the two-day gathering which is hosted by Iran’s Ministry of Energy.

The meeting aims at promotion of cooperation among the regional center member states and expanding its activities to the European and African countries.

The regional center on Urban Water Management groups Iran, Iraq, Bahrain, Syria, Oman, Yemen, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Egypt and Germany./end
