Interior minister departs Baku for Tehran

Baku, May 5, IRNA – Interior Minister Mustafa Mohammad-Najjar at the end of his 2-day visit to Azerbaijan Republic departed Baku, Tuesday late evening, for Tehran.

Speaking to reporters concerning his meetings with Azerbaijan senior officials, he said that President Ilham Aliyev had underlined expansion of bilateral ties.

Concerning his meetings with ministers of Interior, Economic Development, Natural Disasters and Security Affairs, he said that his visit had several goals, among them the issue of economic development relations which the governor generals of neighboring provinces are prepare the ground for promoting ties and provincial exchanges.

He also said that a Memorandum of Understanding was signed on security affairs with Azeri Interior Minister.

Referring to the long border between the two countries, he said that security and tranquility of borders are very important for both countries and added that in the signed MoU, issues like countering organized crimes, illegal drugs, goods, human and foreign currency smuggling, security cooperation, extradition of criminals, visa facilitation for Iranian citizens, confronting illegal immigration and considering new situation in goods transit between the two countries.

In a meeting with the Azeri Minister of Natural Disaster, Mohammad-Najjar said that Iran has good expertise in confronting such events and is ready to transfer its experiences in this concern.

Establishment of investment companies for preparing a ground for cooperation development, creation of north-south corridor for goods transit, facilitating transportation and railroad as well as activating border markets were among issues which were discussed with Azeri Minister of Economic Development.

He also met with Ministers of Security and Defense as well as commander of border guard.

Mohammad- Najjar heading a delegation including deputies of the ministry, senior directors and governor generals of four neighboring provinces with Azerbaijan Republic arrived in Baku on Monday upon invitation of his Azeri counterpart./end
