Iran-Azerbaijan Republic ministers hold talks

Baku, May 5, IRNA – Interior Minister Mustafa Mohammad-Najjar discussed issues of mutual interest with Azerbaijan Republic National Security Minister Eldar Mahmudov here on Tuesday afternoon.

In the meeting, Mahmudov, referring to the good neighborly ties and many commonalities between the two countries, underlined the necessity of further boosting cooperation, in particular to counter illegal immigration and transit of drugs.

He expounded on issues concerning the current regional situation and the Karabakh dispute, underlining the necessity of mutual cooperation.

Mohammad-Najjar, for his part, also underlined the necessity of expansion of further cooperation between the two countries.

The transit drugs in the region is a consequence of the US presence in the region, especially in Afghanistan, Mohammad-Najjar said, underlining the need for further mutual cooperation to counter the drug menace, terrorism and extremism.

Expressing satisfaction over the current level of Tehran-Baku ties, Mohammad-Najjar expressed hope for further development of friendly ties between the two countries.

During his visit, Mohammad-Najjar also met with the commander of Azerbaijan Republic Border Guard and discussed bilateral cooperation in the field of border issues.

Mohammad-Najjar arrived in Baku on Monday, on a two-day visit, upon the invitation of the Azerbaijan Republic Interior Minister and also met with President Ilham Aliyev as well as ministers of interior and Economic Development./end
