Iran always ready to swap fuel- spokesman

Tehran, May 4, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman said Tuesday that Iran is “constantly” ready for fuel exchange that would help resolve the nuclear dispute.

Speaking at his weekly news conference, Ramin Mehman-Parast said the exchange of fuel will be possible if the two sides are determined to do so.

“We were not to produce 20 percent enriched uranium from the outset, but when the other side lengthened the process and we were going to run out of fuel, we started producing 20-pecent-enriched uranium,” the spokesman said.

On the visit of North Korea’s Chairman of the Presidium Kim Jong-nam to Tehran, Mehman-Parast said the issue in under consideration. He hoped that it would happen soon and the two countries would witness development of bilateral economic affairs as a result of this visit.

Asked about Brazil’s stand on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, Mehman-Parast replied it is sincere, and added Tehran and Brasilia enjoy good relations. He remarked that Brazil can play an effective role in solving Iran’s nuclear dispute. Mehman-Parast stressed that Iran will welcome Brazil’s and Turkey’s efforts to resolve the issue.

About global disarmament, the spokesman said it needs a global movement and determination to demilitarize those nuclear countries which are not poised to remove their arsenals./end
