Indian papers massively cover Iran President's UN address

New Delhi, May 4, IRNA – Leading Indian newspapers massively covered Tuesday the address of the Iranian president to the UN non-proliferation conference.

“President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speaking at a review conference of the 1970 nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) at United Nations Headquarters in New York on Monday said that such threats should face swift reaction from the United Nations and termination of all cooperation of NPT member-states with the threatening aggressor state,” India’s leading English daily “The Indian Express” wrote.

“Among the punishments that should be meted out to countries that use, or threaten to use, atomic weapons against other nations is suspension from the board of governors of the UN nuclear watchdog in Vienna,” the daily quoted the Iranian president as saying.

Another leading English newspaper referred to President Ahmadinejad as saying, "Iran is committed to international regulations. Western powers who have stockpiled nuclear weapons, have used them and are monopolizing them, are not seeking to build trust with Iran.”

Meanwhile, “The Pioneer” quoting Iranian President wrote: “The atomic bomb has become a tool for bullying domination and expansionism”.

Another Indian newspaper, “Asian Age,” wrote that the Iranian president brought his nuclear case to New York on Monday, turning a UN treaty conference into a stage for Tehran’s long-running showdown with the Western powers over its uranium enrichment program./end
