Spanish Envoy: Iran’s nuclear program, non-military

Tehran, May 4, IRNA – Spain’s Ambassador to Tehran Leopoldo Stampa underlined the non-military nature of Iran’s nuclear program.

He made the remarks on Tuesday during an exclusive interview with IRNA after his meeting with members of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission.

He said Iran’s nuclear program was non-military and was conducted under the full supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

He noted that based on the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) all countries are entitled to make use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Asked to comment on the fruitfulness of US efforts to exert further pressures on Iran, the ambassador said as America was not a member of the European Council, he would not comment on its policies.

He described his meeting with the parliamentarians as very good and fruitful, saying it was a good opportunity offered to foreign ambassadors to talk to members of the national security commission.

Stampa further said both sides offered their views on different issues of mutual interest during the meeting./end
