Extremist EU states’ envoys’ move at NPT confab condemned

United Nations, May 4, IRNA – Several representatives from EU states condemned the walkout of delegates from the hall of the ongoing NPT revision conference, underway in New York, during Iran's President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's speech.

When President Ahmadinejad referred to the role played by some western countries in arming the Zionist regime, majority of world nations’ representatives approved of his remarks by clapping at several points of his address. But extremist representatives of a few countries, including the delegates from Britain and France, left the hall ashamed of their governments’ conduct.

Some representatives were covering their faces when they were passing in front of the cameras.

Even after the end of the president’s address, those present, continued to applaud Ahmadinejad by clapping for a long time, which further enraged the representatives of the countries that are still mass producing the nuclear weapons.

Later a large group of envoys from various countries gathered around Ahmadinejad appreciating him for his illuminating and precise statements and to support the nuclear stands of Iran.

President Ahmadinejad reiterated at the conference that all world countries have the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, presenting Iran’s ten special proposals for global disarmament of the nuclear weapons.

The NPT revision conference that opened at the UN General Assembly on Monday will wrap up on May 28th.

An IRNA representative who was covering the event spoke to many representatives of some European countries who agreed that the behavior of their colleagues was contrary to the beliefs and prestige of European nations.

The ambassador of a European country who spoke to IRNA on condition of anonymity said, “We expected the entire envoys at the conference hall to listen to every speaker’s comments patiently and to get engaged in debates and negotiations if necessary.”

He reiterated, “This address was quite logical and transparent and contained no intriguing point in it.”

The delegations of these EU countries did not harmonize with the extremist countries’ representatives, listened carefully, and kept taking notes during President Ahmadinejad’s address

The ambassador of an Arab League country praised Ahmadinejad’s constructive proposal and his entire address.

He said, “Even the US delegation remained seated throughout the address and listened to the Iranian president’s speech.”/end
