Japan cancels $17 mln from Yemen's previous debts

SANA'A, July 10 (Saba)- Japan ambassador to Sana'a Masakazu Toshikage announced that his government decided to cancel $17million from Yemen's previous debts.

Toshikage said, during his extended meeting with Deputy Premier for Economic Affairs, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Abdul Karim al-Arhabi on Wednesday with Bank of Japan for International Cooperation mission, that this decision comes within the framework of Japan's interest to support and boost cooperationties with Yemen.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues related to technical support and experiences that Japan may provide Yemen, in addition to the Japanese available funds within the financial partnership between Japan and other donors for supportingdevelopment in Yemen.

The two sides also discussed issues of improving mutual cooperation ties between Yemen and Japan, particularly new trends to supportYemen through Japanese soft loans.

Moreover al-Arhabi reviewed the with Bank of Japan delegation the available investment opportunities for Japanese companies to investin Yemen in the fields electricity, gas, cement and fisheries.
