Iranian religious minorities confab held in Paris

Paris, May 2, IRNA – A conference dubbed “ Religion Minorities in Iran” was held in the presence of Iranian Jews deputy in parliament (Majlis) and a number of French media people in Iran Culture House in Paris.
In the conference, Iranian Jews deputy in the Majlis Siamak Marsedq presented a report of Jews' legal, political and social situation in Iran, and underlined that western governments' and media propagation is false and baseless.
He said that while European Jews were under pressure and were prosecuted by medieval churches, there was no case of aggression against followers of Moses by Muslims in history.
He added that historically, presence of Jews in Iran goes back to 3,000 years ago and the jews consider themselves fully Iranian and they dedicated many martyrs to their motherland during the imposed war.(war with Iraq in 1980-1988)
The Majlis deputy condemned suppression of Palestinians by the Zionist regime and called for separation of Zionism and divine faith of Judaism.
Marsedq went on to say that just like terrorist behavior of al-Qaeda that has no relations with Islam, the real Judaism has no relations with the Zionist crimes.
He stressed that while synagogues all around the world are under severe security measures, there has never been any aggression against religious sites in Iran and there is no need for protective measures in the synagogues.
Marsedq stressed that in Majlis, his vote and other religious minorities deputies vote are lesgally equal to the votes of other deputies and even to the Majlis speaker.
Another speaker in the conference was Jean-Claude Scharbie, a French physician and researcher who lived 52 days in Iran.He presented a report on legal situation of Assyrian and Armenians in Iran.
He said that governmental and official support for religious minorities has been increased compared with the past.
Iran’s Cultural Attaché in France said religious minorities' position has been determined upon country’s constitution and they have five seats in Majlis.
Two documentaries were also shown in the conference about Assyrians and Armenians practicing traditional ceremonies in west Azerbaijan province and another one about living situation of Jews in Iran./end
