ALL COUNTRIES NEED TO COOPERATE TO SOLVE FOOD SUPPLY SHORTAGES, PRESIDENT SAYS

Toyako, Hokkaido, July 10 (ANTARA)- Visiting Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said all countries should cooperate to make sure of the availability of food in a bid to prevent a world food crisis, with high prices as indication of an imminent food crisis.

"Developing countries need to restructure their agricultural development as main agenda in their development efforts. On the other hand, the developed countries are also expected to use their economic policy most effectively to support their agriculture sector," the president said in an Outreach Working Lunch of G-8 summit here on Wednesday.

The head of state also said that the developed countries could make an investment in the agricultural field and transfer their knowledge and technology to boost farm produce in the developing countries.

"Their assistance and support of better economic policies could boost food production of the developing countries," the president said.

"It is high time for the government, private sector and researchers for closer cooperation to diversify farm produce in a bid to secure sustainable food supply," Yudhoyono added.
