INDONESIA NOW SAFE FOR FOREIGN VISITORS, US ENVOY SAYS
Nusa Dua, Bali, July 9 (ANTARA) - Indonesia is now safe for foreign visitors, US ambassador to Indonesia Cameron Hume said here on Wednesday.
"We believe the threat of terrorism in Indonesia has in the past few years been reduced and the country is now safe," the US envoy said.
He said the improved security condition in Indonesia had been reported to the American people, and the US government itself had lifted its travel warning on Indonesia.
"But the arrest of several terror suspects in Palembang, South Sumatra, recently proves the threat of terrorism still exists in Indonesia," he said.
Hume said the police's ability in breaking up the terror network in Palembang had earned the Indonesian police a positive assessment.
"We believe the threat of terrorism in Indonesia has in the past few years been reduced and the country is now safe," the US envoy said.
