THOUSANDS OF HOUSES IN BALIKPAPAN FLOODED
Balikpapan, July 9 (ANTARA) - Thousands of houses in Balikpapan, Indonesia?s East Kalimantan province, were hit by 2.5-meter floods since 3 a.m local time on Wednesday due to incessant heavy rains.
Areas seriously hit by the floods include Kampung Damai village, Kampung Timur village and Sepingan village.
Besides those areas, high inundation also went through Gunung Sari Ulu area which was seldom hit by floods before.
Local people have begun to leave their houses to safer areas.
"I and my family want to save ourselves as our house has been submerged," said Ririn, a resident of Gunung Sari Ulu.
The floods have not subsided till this report was published.
