Iran optimistic about fuel swap: Mottaki
Tehran, April 28, IRNA -- Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Tuesday that Iran is optimistic about the fuel swap and considers it as a means for confidence-building between Iran and the West.
He made the remarks in a joint press conference with his Brazilian counterpart Brasil Celso Amorim.
Mottaki expressed the hope that the deal will be implemented in the near future.
It is possible to draw up a mechanism to guarantee implementation of the swap as soon as possible, he underlined.
Mottaki said that Iran and Brazil are expected to specify new definitions for their mutual, regional as well as international relations in line with their national interests.
He said that Iranian executive bodies including the foreign ministry upon guidelines made by the president are willing to enhance the level of trade to five folds.
Iran has attained significant developments and success in regional and international developments which is very remarkable for world nations, he said.
Mottaki said that Brazil has adopted rational stand consistent with global developments and the move was welcomed by the world public opinion.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is to pay an official visit to Tehran to attend the G15 meeting.
Iran and Brazil are determined to bolster and deepen mutual relations and cooperation in various fields through implementing the agreements already signed between the two countries, he pointed out.
Brazil has an outstanding status at the United Nations Security Council which can help the body uphold much better position through making just and legal decisions on international developments, Mottaki underlined.
The two countries can take great strides towards international peace and security through constructive consultations, he added.
Iran pays respect to Brazil’s international stand, he said, underlining the need for further expansion of all-out ties between the two nations.
‘We are optimistic about prospects of collective cooperation between the two countries and believe that expansion of such ties will be to the benefit of both nations as well as the entire region,” Mottaki said.
Amorim arrived in Tehran Monday morning on a two-day stay in run-up to the upcoming visit of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to Iran which is to take place on May 15-17./end
