Iran-Russia sign telecom cooperation MoU

Moscow, April 27, IRNA – Iran’s visiting Communications and Information Technology minister supervised signing of a telecom cooperation memorandum of understanding with Russia’s Telecom Company here Monday.
In accordance with the contract signed between Iran’s Telecommunications Infrastructure Company and Russian Federation’s Telecom Company, the span of the two companies’ cooperation would expand further than ever before.
Managing Director of the Telecommunications Infrastructure Company of Iran Mahmoud Khosravi and the Managing Director of Russia’s Telecom Company Andrey Kalpov signed the MoU contract for broader telecommunications cooperation between the two countries.
IRI Tele-Communications and Information Technology Minister Engineer Reza Taqipour arrived in Moscow Monday morning on an invitation extended to him by his Russian Counterpart Igor Sokolov for a two-day official visit.
Sokolov said during meeting with his Iranian counterpart in the presence of the Iranian ambassador to Moscow and a number of the two countries’ telecom officials, “Iran and Russia are both in need of very strong telecommunication networks today.”
He said, “Iran and Russia are two countries in the field of information transit and can play effective roles in establishment of telecommunication connections and communication channels in the world.”
The Russian Telecommunications Minister added, “We in Russia seriously emphasize in manufacturing and using all-Russian facilities on our communication and telecom channels, since experience has taught us that the western countries are neither reliable not trustworthy at times of emergencies and dire need.”
Iran’s Telecom Minister Taqipour, too, said during the meeting, “Russia is among Iran’s great and friendly neighbors and keeping in mind the two countries’ statuses in the region, there are very great potentials for strengthening and broadening cooperation in communication and telecom fields.”
He pointed out that Iran’s geopolitical status in the region is quite unique, adding, “Iran is situated at an international crossroad and is the access point to various parts in the east and the west.”
Taqipour said, “Considering Iran’s capabilities, we are ready to decrease the communications and telecom traffic between Russia and Europe, and to cooperate with Moscow in becoming the two sides’ telecom transit route.”/end
