Qashqavi: Iran adopts active policy for détente

Tabriz, E.Azarbaijan prov, April 27, IRNA -- Iran’s deputy foreign minister for consular, parliamentary and expatriates affairs Hassan Qashqavi said on Monday that Iran seeks détente in the region by adopting an active diplomacy.

In a meeting with the students of Tabriz Payam-Nour University, he stated that tension in any regional country will affect the other countries.

“Iran tries to establish peace and security in the region,” he said.

In response to a question by a student, he said hat Iran is ready to use its full capacities to settle the dispute between Azerbaijan Republic and Armenia over Karabakh.

Referring to his visit with Azeri officials in his recent trip to Azerbaijan Republic, he further noted that they endorsed Iran’s positive role in the settlement of the conflict and appreciated Iran for its policy in this respect.

He described the conference on 'Disarmament and Non-Proliferation' held in Tehran in April as a move in line with détente and said that the event was aimed at presenting an approach for the materialization of NPT and respecting human rights.

Qashqavi was in Tabriz to inspect the ministry’s Northwest Representative Office in the city./end
