Japan Corporate Service Prices Fall Record 2.5 Pct in FY 2009

Tokyo, April 26 (Jiji Press)--Japan's corporate service prices
declined 2.5 pct in fiscal 2009 from the previous year, matching their
record fall logged in fiscal 2001 in the aftermath of the information
technology bubble, Bank of Japan data showed Monday.
The corporate service price index stood at 97.9 in fiscal 2009 that
ended in March against 100 for the base year of 2005, the central bank said
in a preliminary report.
Prices of ocean freight transportation services fell 21.8 pct, hit
hard by the global economic slowdown.
Software development-related prices declined 3.1 pct due to a fall
in corporate capital investment.
Prices of toll road fees fell 17.9 pct due to cuts in expressway
fees. Advertising service prices declined 5.4 pct.
In March alone, the index declined 1.1 pct from a year before to
98.0.
Although the index declined for the 18th straight month, the pace
of decline slowed from a 1.2 pct fall in February.
Thanks to a global economic recovery, international air cargo
service prices rose 13.5 pct.
The pace of price fall in the hotel industry slowed to 4.4 pct from
5.6 pct in February.
